One of the four trip leaders taking part in a World Challenge Expedition journey in South Africa has gone missing in the surf close to the St Lucia Wetlands and is presumed to have drowned.

According to the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, some of the learners on the expedition got into trouble in the surf and were at risk of being swept out to sea. 24-year-old Sean Foxcroft of Manchester dived in to assist them and disappeared during that time. Despite an extensive search that lasted through the night.

Mr Lambinon said that though conditions were not particularly rough, some strong rip currents were present in the area.
