The SPCA have raised concerns that an outbreak of canine distemper in the vicinity of Elands Bay could spread to the seal colony nearby.

Large numbers of dogs in the township have contracted the highly contagious disease which affects the respiratory, gastrointestinal and central nervous system. The disease is often fatal.

SPCA chief executive, Allan Perrins said that they would alert Marine and Coastal Management about the risk to the seal colony.
