The Deputy Minister of the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEAT) and Tourism, Ms. Rejoice Mabudafhasi, will deliver a keynote address at the 5th annual Western Indian Ocean Marine Sciences Association (WIOMSA) Symposium in Durban tonight.

The symposium, which is jointly organised by WIOMSA and the Oceanographic Research Institute (ORI) of Durban, will see about 350 delegates from 28 countries converge in Durban, where they will attempt to provide valuable insight into the theme of the symposium: "Advances in Marine Science in Eastern Africa - Science, Policy and Management: Pressures and responses in the Western Indian Ocean".

The symposium runs from the 22nd to the 26th of October and the first evening will culminate with a book launch and an award ceremony both to be done by the Deputy Minister.
