SPCA inspectors who investigated the mass death of Cape Fur Seals at the Elands Bay seal colony have stated that the animals died of natural causes.

This comes after suspicions of seal-clubbing arose when tourists found a number of seal carcasses, many of which were bleeding from the nose, at Elands Bay.

The actual cause of the deaths remains unclear.

Marine and Coastal Management (MCM), have stated that they are happy to meet with the SPCA to discuss ways of protecting the seal colony.
