President Jacob Zuma and Cabinet have called on the nation to warmly welcome the thousands of delegates set to attend the upcoming COP17 climate change conference in Durban.

South Africans have also been urged to wear green to show support for the conference, which would see world leaders trying to find solutions to the causes of climate change.

"The President further calls on media to partner with government to mobilise the nation in boosting its green economy and reducing the country's carbon footprint as we count down 18 days to the conference," said Cabinet spokesperson Jimmy Manyi on Thursday, following Cabinet's ordinary meeting on Wednesday.

Manyi said that Cabinet had also wished to thank the nation for participating in Census 2011, which ended on 31 October.

"Cabinet urges individuals who have not been counted to call the Census toll free number 0800 110 248 immediately to make arrangements to be counted before Monday 14 November," he said.

Manyi said Cabinet had also called on people to cooperate with Census officials in the upcoming Post Enumeration Survey from 15 November to 15 December.

The study is meant to determine Census coverage and measure undercount. - BuaNews
